Once you upload your .zip file, click on Install Now, your theme will be uploaded and will be installed on your WordPress server. On the next page, you will see a option to activate the theme.
Before activating the theme you can see preview of your site with new design by clicking on Preview. Foe installing multiple themes and editing them I prefer this method. FTP method is very useful method when your server security doesn’t allow you to install theme from your WordPress Dashboard. Sometime installing theme from dashboard may cause some errors. Moreover in FTP method of installing theme can be considered as manual WordPress Theme installation. To get started with FTP method you need to have an FTP software like FileZilla or your cPanel should offer FTP access from web Panel. Apart from FTP software, you need WinRAR to unpack the .zip files.
In this method, we remove the theme and going to upload it directly to your theme root folder. WordPress themes folder is located under wp-content folder of your WordPress directory.
Unpacking the Themes:
As mentioned above, almost all themes club pack the theme in the .zip format as WordPress only supports .zip format. So, you need to unzip the theme folder first.
Now login to your FTP manager and locate to wp-content/themes folder and upload the unzipped folder directly to your server.

Similar to it’s installation, there are two different way to remove WordPress Themes. As shown in above image, you can go to Appearance > Themes and click on delete to remove any theme. I suggest you to never delete your live theme directly, first switch to another theme then delete the previous once.
You can also login to your FTP Manager and locate wp-content/themes and delete the theme which you didn’t like. Personally speaking I found dashboard method as the easiest one to get rid of unused obsoletes themes.
If you are switching from any WordPress theme whose SEO features you are using then don;t forget to Export and import those feature into your new theme first. Or alternatively, you can use plugins like WordPress SEO to import SEO settings from current theme.
